"Hurry up, Lucas!" called out a young, fourteen-year-old girl. She had short, curly, red hair and a spray of freckles across her face. With her shining, sapphire eyes, she was a true ginger.
Lucas, the boy trying his hardest to catch up, landed a swift blow to her shoulder.
"Not so loudly," he muttered, voice ice-cold and face warm as the duo attracted the stares from those around them.
The girl rolled her eyes and opened the classroom door for him with a smug smile on her face. He pushed her over and grabbed the door.
"I've got that for you, honey," he snickered, getting the door for her. She grimaced and punched just inches away from his chest. He laughed, leaving the rest of their class quietly staring at them.
"Never hold the door for me," she huffed, taking a seat at the front of the class. "You're not known as a boy yet. Besides, girls can hold their own goddamn doors."
"Not so loud!" Lucas hissed under his breath, feeling his heart speed up. "Maddie, you may be comfortable living inside-out of the closet or whatever, but I'm not sure I wanna go to this school with that."
Maddie sighed and rested her head on her desk. She looked up at him, her now dull, blue eyes opposing her boisterous personality.
"Fine, then, Rachel."
Rachel.
That name tore at his mind, making him naseous. He could only sit down to try to return back to normal.
"Hello, students," a young woman at the front of the room greeted. Lucas tried not to stare, but not unlike half of the students in the classroom, he couldn't help himself. The young woman had long, light brown hair traveling down her back in gentle waves, with bright, cerulean eyes. Her skin had a light tan, and her black and white striped skirt looked more than unique. If she had not been so tall, it would have reached the floor. She had a serious expression, but she was the most glamorous woman Lucas had ever seen.
He had never had a hot teacher before. This year would be interesting.
"I'm Ms. Martinez, and I'm your Human Geography teacher," she spoke, her voice surprisingly teacher-like for a person of such a young age.
"You all must have been very studious in middle school to be able to make it into this AP class."
Some of the students, like Lucas, smiled to themselves and accepted the compliment. Others, like Maddie, could only inwardly snort. Some students were studious, and others were smart yet lazy and could only hope everything would fall into place. Still others had not the slightest clue why they were there, and had "Christmas Treed" their way into a college course.
Ah, high school.
"Whatever the case, I'd like to know a bit more about you all. Pair up and answer the questions on the board."
Lucas immediately pulled out a sheet of paper for he and Maddie to share. Everyone else paired up into other intimate groups of two.
A young girl with hair a plethora of hues approached Ms. Martinez. She wore all black, aside from her red, studded belt holding up her skinny jeans. Ms. Martinez rose her eyebrows and glanced around the room, eyes finally falling on Lucas and Maddie. She smiled sweetly at Lucas. He could feel his heart melt. Maddie rolled her eyes at the ridiculous expression on his face.
"Would you two mind collaborating with Cassandra Raven?"
Some of the kids in the class snickered. Maddie did not. She politely nodded and pulled up another chair for the girl.
"I guess we know her name now," Lucas muttered, "but still not her story."
Maddie snorted and laughed aloud, making Lucas laugh, too.
"Honey, you are so bad!" she exclaimed, just as the girl sat down. "Don't be sassy now."
Cassandra perked her ears up and looked to Maddie. She smiled and ran a hand through her black hair. Lucas could see more details of her now, mostly of the ten coats of make-up on her face. He hated people like her. She was trying a bit too hard, from what it seemed. Lucas was not sure what she was exactly trying to do, but whatever it was, she was trying too hard.
"Wait, if you don't mind me asking, are you both gay?" she questioned immediately, eyes traveling to Maddie. Maddie grinned and shook her head. Lucas cleared his throat and fidgeted at his shirt with sweating palms.
"You should probably ask for my name first," Maddie scolded, almost like a mother yelling at her own child. Cassandra's face turned bright red, and her head slumped down to the table while she apologized.
"Anyways," Maddie continued. "You can call me Maddie. I'm just kinda queer all around. Who cares?"
Cassandra grinned and pointed Lucas, who was just about ready to maim her.
"How about her? Is she a lesbian?"
Lucas could feel his hands ball up into fists. He was not a violent person, but never before had he heard one person be so blunt. This was ridiculous.
"Nah," Maddie shook her head, leaning far back in her chair. "That's Lu... Rachel," she quickly corrected, catching his eye. After catching her eye, Lucas looked down. He was glad Maddie was not being as flamboyantly queer as she could have been, but this girl Cassandra really bugged him. He wondered how long this "getting to know the other students" time would last.
"Well, that's a shame," Cassandra cooed, looking at Lucas affectionately. He felt his entire body tense up under her watch. "I'm bisexual, you know," she said, as if that explained everything to her. "I think you're pretty... and you seem butch..."
Maddie's hand holding his was the only barrier that kept him from hitting Cassandra when she finally exclaimed, "Pretty butch!"
By now, even Maddie was annoyed. She cleared her throat and picked up her pencil with her left hand, eager to change the subject and begin the work.
"Hey, you guys should come to the LGBT Club on Friday," Cassandra said suddenly. Maddie quit writing and perked her head up, looking at Cassandra in the eye.
"LGBT Club?"
Cassandra grinned and nodded, looking towards Ms. Martinez.
"The club's still on for Friday, right?"
Ms. Martinez nodded. She looked between Maddie, Lucas, and Cassandra. She nodded her head, almost as though expressing her approval for the three, and continued to type on her computer.
"Seriously, you guys should join," she repeated, her spiked collar noticeable when she nodded. "Take it from a sophomore. You two would love it. It's after school on Friday in this room, and it lasts about an hour and a half."
Lucas grinned and nodded, catching Maddie's eye yet again.
"That sounds like fun! We'll probably go."
The next fifty minutes of the class passed uneventfully. Cassandra bid the two farewell, and Lucas was left to walk with Maddie to their English class.
"Were you being serious about going to the club meeting?"
Lucas sneered.
"Of course not."
Maddie whined and tugged on his blue shirt sleeve, nearly tearing it in half.
"Please come with me! It'll be so cool!"
"No, Maddie."
"We can meet other transgender kids and ask them for advice!"
Lucas pinched her shoulder with the sharpest of his fingernails. She squirmed and let out a shriek, pausing in the middle of the stairwell and nearly falling.
"I doubt there's anyone else, anyway. And not so loud," he whispered with a sharp air to his voice. Maddie sniffed and pulled her sleeves over her arms. They reached the bottom of the stairwell and exited the building.
"I don't want to be alone anyone," she whispered, pushing back one of her sleeves to hold his hand. They had been holding hands since they were but three years of age. Of course, with Maddie's bold attitude and Lucas' admiration for her, the two still did. "This club is the perfect opportunity for me, and for you, too. Besides..."
She looked left. She looked right. Seeing that the coast was clear, she leaned in close to Lucas' right ear.
"You need to protect me. I'm afraid of big, scary lesbians."
Lucas ruffled her head of hair and continued to walk towards their second period in the next building over. He sighed and let go of her hand, resting his hands behind his head.
"I'll go to the first meeting with you," he decided. Maddie's entire face lit up, and she let her braces be seen by all passersby as she smiled. "If I like it, then I might go to the second."
Maddie jumped forward and enveloped him in an embrace. It was like the sun behind the moon. The two were an eclipse of friends.
They pulled apart. Maddie beamed.
"That's all I'm asking for."
Hey guys, I'm writing my first real original story on here that I'm going to continue!!! If you like it, anyway ;)
Please tell me if you see any errors, grammatical or otherwise! It's kind of late and I wrote most of it in thirty minutes tops, so I'll probably go back and edit it later on.
And yes to my IRL friends, Ms. Martinez is very obviously based off of our fourth period teacher oh my god don't judge me like let's face it she is gorgeous.

Allow me to explain these characters of mine. I don't talk about them much because I haven't really developed the story yet, but this is what I've got so far. I have vague ideas for other character, but I haven't really gotten into them yet (or even given them names) so I'll only give you these three for now.

Lucas- a young man with angry thoughts and meek actions. He is 14 years old, like Maddie, and he is interested in statistics and characteristics having to do with people. He is not sexist, but he particularly enjoys bothering his best friend Maddie when it comes to "all her feminism junk." Lucas has a suit fetish and cannot wait to get one for himself. His Human Geography teacher is very attractive from his perspective, and he isn't sure what to do about that.

Maddie- a young woman with passion and a sense of humor. She is a huge feminist and is obsessed with pride. She pushes her pride onto others, and it often makes Lucas uncomfortable. She is inside-out of the closet as transgender, because her parents are afraid of having to explain her situation to their younger daughter. Maddie gets angry when Lucas is sexist and usually punches him, ironically getting herself called "sexist" by others for hitting a "girl."

Cassandra- a bisexual girl that wears all black. She identifies as atheist, and accuses all Christians of being homophobic. She exclusively listens to bands that have at least one "queer" band member. She is a sophomore, and came out of the closet as bisexual when she was a freshman. She has had a few girlfriends in the past, but she swings both ways. Also, did I mention that she is bisexual? Because, well, she is. It's not a phase, it's just who she is. Don't judge her. You don't know her story.
Her real first name is Cassandra, but Raven is just some shitty pseudonym she made up.

Hope you like it so far! Stay tuned for chapter 2! :)
